Upload a photo of the front of your home, tell the AI what to change, and see your garage door in black, a wood tone, frosted glass or any color on your own house before you paint or order a new door.
Free account required. New accounts get 2 free renders (watermarked) in most countries, then paid plans.
Garage Doors Before and After

AfterHow to Preview a New Garage Door on Your Home
- Take a straight-on photo. Stand across the street or at the end of the driveway with the garage door closed and fully in the frame. Move the car out of the way. Soft daylight or an overcast sky gives the most even result.
- Open the paint tool in Custom mode. Upload the photo and describe the change in one sentence. For a color: "Repaint only the garage door in matte black. Keep the siding, trim, front door and roof exactly the same." For a new style: "Replace only the garage door with a modern full-view door of frosted glass in a black frame, the same size and in the same opening."
- Render a short list and compare. Try two or three options, download each result and look at them side by side, or send them to your partner, HOA or door installer. Then check the real door or a paint sample against the house before you commit.
It is useful for homeowners deciding between painting the old door and buying a new one, for sellers who want a quick curb appeal upgrade before listing, and for door dealers and painters who want to show a client the idea first. To change the siding or brick color too, use the exterior paint tool for the whole house.
Garage Door Color Ideas
Black and charcoal
A popular modern choice. Black looks sharp against white, light gray and tan siding and suits contemporary and modern farmhouse homes. On a house where the garage fills most of the front, a big black door can feel heavy, and dark colors get hot in full sun. Charcoal or graphite is a softer middle ground.
White, almond and sandstone
The safe, classic colors and the ones most steel doors ship in. Matching the door to the trim makes a large garage recede, so the front door gets the attention. Look at the undertones: a bright white door next to cream trim, or an almond door next to bright white trim, can look dingy.
Wood tones
Cedar, walnut, mahogany and oak looks add warmth to white, gray and stone houses and suit carriage-style and craftsman doors. You can get the look with real wood, or with steel and composite doors that have a printed woodgrain finish. If the front door is also wood, try to keep the two tones close.
Gray, navy, green and bronze
Gray suits almost any siding and hides dust. Navy and deep green bring color without shouting and look good on white or cream houses. Bronze and dark brown go well with brick and stone and with a brown roof. Pull the color from something you are keeping, such as the roof, brick or window frames.
Garage Door Styles to Try
- Glass and full-view doors. Aluminum frames with clear, frosted or tinted glass panels, often in black. They suit modern and contemporary homes and let daylight into the garage. Frosted or tinted glass keeps the inside private.
- Modern flush doors. Smooth, flat panels with no raised detail, sometimes with a narrow strip of windows. They look clean in black, gray, white or a woodgrain finish.
- Carriage-house doors. Made to look like old swing-out barn doors, with vertical planks, windows across the top and black handles and hinges. They suit farmhouse, craftsman and traditional homes.
- Raised and recessed panel doors. The standard look on many houses. A new color is often enough to update one without replacing it.
Plan the garage door together with the front door and shutters so the front doesn't end up with three competing colors. Our front door color visualizer and shutter color visualizer help with the rest of the front.
Before You Paint Your Garage Door
- Read the door maker's paint guidance first. Painting a factory-finished door yourself can void the paint finish warranty.
- Steel doors: clean off dirt and chalky residue, sand lightly, prime any bare metal with a primer made for galvanized steel, and paint soon after cleaning.
- Door makers such as Amarr recommend a good 100% acrylic exterior latex paint for steel doors, not an oil-based paint.
- Dark colors absorb heat. On some insulated steel doors they can make the panels bow in strong sun, and dark stains on wood doors are often not advised for south- or west-facing walls.
- Paint adds weight to a wood door, which can affect the springs and the opener. Have the balance checked if the door starts to struggle.
- Don't paint the weather seals or the rollers, and let the door dry fully before you close it.
- On an older house, test existing paint for lead before you sand or scrape.

Garage Door Visualizer FAQ
Is the garage door visualizer free?+
You need a free account to generate. New accounts in most countries get enough free credits for up to 2 renders, and free renders carry a small watermark. After that, paid plans on the pricing page give you more renders without the watermark.
Do I need to sign up?+
Yes. Rendering requires an account so your credits and results can be saved. You can sign in with Google or a one-time code sent to your email.
Can it show a new garage door style, not just a new color?+
Yes. In Custom mode you can describe a different door, for example "replace only the garage door with a full-view frosted glass door in a black frame, same size, same opening" or "a cedar carriage-style door with a row of windows across the top". The AI draws its best version of that idea. It is not a specific product from a door maker, so use it to choose a look, then pick the real model with your installer.
Will it change only the garage door?+
That is the goal, and you get the best results when you say so in the instruction, for example "repaint only the garage door black, keep the siding, trim, front door and roof the same". It is an AI edit, not a mask, so check the result. If something else changed, run it again with a clearer instruction.
Can I try a brand's exact paint or door color?+
You can type any color name or description, but the render is an approximation, not a product match. Screens, camera white balance and daylight all change how a color reads. Before you buy, look at a real sample or a painted test board against the house in morning and afternoon light.
What photo works best?+
A straight-on photo of the front of the house in daylight, taken from the street or the end of the driveway, with the whole garage door in the frame and the door closed. Overcast light is ideal because there are no hard shadows. Cars parked in front of the door make the result less reliable.
Is a black garage door a good idea?+
Black suits modern, contemporary and farmhouse homes and hides dirt well, but door makers warn that dark colors absorb heat. On some insulated steel doors a dark color can cause the panels to bow in strong sun, and dark stains on wood doors are often not recommended for walls that face south or west. Check your door maker's color guidance before you paint a door dark, especially in a hot climate.
Should the garage door match the front door?+
It doesn't have to. A garage door in the same color as the trim or siding lets it blend in, which helps when the garage takes up a large part of the front. A garage door that matches the front door or shutters ties the front together. Render both and compare them side by side.
