Laundry Room Wall Colors Before and After

AI-generated sample edits. The before photos are AI-generated sample laundry rooms; the camera angle and light stay the same and the wall color changes. Each caption names anything else that changed. A render shows a color idea, not real paint on a real wall, and real paint looks different under your own bulbs.

Small laundry room with white walls, white front-load washer and dryer, white upper cabinets above them, light gray floor tile and a ceiling light, beforeBefore
The same laundry room with the walls painted pale green, with the cabinets, machines and ceiling light keptAfter
White to pale sage: the walls, including the wall behind the cabinets, now read a pale minty green, lighter than a muted sage. The white cabinets, the washer and dryer, the ceiling light, the baseboards and the door look the same. The text on the machines’ control panels was slightly redrawn, and the floor tile looks a bit more mottled and cooler than in the before.
Laundry room with beige walls, a white washer and dryer side by side, a wire shelf with detergent bottles, a window with white trim and a brown floor, beforeBefore
The same laundry room with the walls painted bright blue, with the window, shelf, bottles and machines keptAfter
Beige to blue: the walls now read a bright sky blue, stronger than a soft powder blue. The window and its trim, the wire shelf and bottles, the washer and dryer and the door look the same. A bumpy orange-peel-style texture shows on the right-hand wall in the after, and the floor looks paler and a bit more mottled than in the before.
Laundry room with white walls, a gray metallic washer and dryer, a white countertop over a base cabinet, a small window and a wood-look floor, beforeBefore
The same laundry room with the walls and the foreground door painted deep navy, with the countertop, window and machines keptAfter
White to navy: the walls now read a deep navy, with some glossy-looking patches and visible texture. The white ceiling, the countertop and cabinet, the window and the washer and dryer look the same. The foreground door at the right-hand edge was also repainted navy, with visible texture and a gray smudge. The floor planks look cooler and slightly purplish, with sharper grain, than in the before. A dark wall makes the room read much darker in the render.

How to Preview Laundry Room Paint Colors on Your Own Photo

  1. Take a clear photo. Turn the ceiling light on, open the door, and shoot from the doorway or a corner so the walls, the machines and the floor are in view. Keep the lens level.
  2. Open the paint tool in Custom mode. Upload the photo and describe the change in one sentence: “Paint only the walls sage green. Keep the white cabinets, the washer and dryer, the floor, the ceiling and the light exactly the same.” Name the cabinets, machines and floor, because the AI can recolor or redraw them along with the walls.
  3. Compare two or three colors. Render a short list, such as a light color, a green and a blue, download the results and look at them on the screen you will decide on. Then paint a large sample on one wall and look at it under your real light, next to your machines.

A laundry room has more to color than the walls. See the cabinet paint color visualizer for the cabinets, the accent wall visualizer for one feature wall, the trim paint color visualizer and the interior paint visualizer.

Laundry Room Paint Colors to Try

Sage and pale greens

In Livingetc, designer Brad Ramsey recommends Sherwin-Williams Green Trance, saying it softens the room and feels cheery, and Marie Flanigan used Benjamin Moore Sage Mountain on cabinets. Real Homes quotes Elyse Moody of Designer Appliances saying sage is common in laundry rooms. In our example, white walls went a pale minty green.

Blues and navy

On Real Homes, Will Thompson of Valspar says blue tones can feel stress-relieving, with hazy, muted blues feeling calming and fresher teals and turquoises bringing in light. Diamond Vogel, a paint maker, says navy is trending, and suggests its deep, muted slate-gray Cape Cod Bay for an accent wall behind the washer and dryer. In our examples beige went a bright sky blue and white went a deep navy.

White and light neutrals

Flanigan recommends Benjamin Moore White Dove in Livingetc for a bright, clean, airy, serene feel, and suggests adding texture to avoid a sterile look. Real Homes says white suits small rooms, and Diamond Vogel calls its off-white Luna Moon a strong choice for small spaces or dimly lit basement laundry rooms.

Yellows, black and dark accents

Livingetc describes Farrow & Ball India Yellow as cheerful with a moody intensity, and Flanigan suggests Sherwin-Williams Black Magic on cabinets to contrast with lighter walls. Real Homes lists dark indigo and forest green among its dark options, paired with warm neutrals.

Before You Paint Your Laundry Room

  • Think about light. Diamond Vogel says lighting matters when choosing colors and advises high light reflectance value (LRV) colors for rooms with little natural light.
  • Coordinate with what stays. Diamond Vogel pairs Buffed Plum with crisp white cabinetry and appliances, and Sawgrass Cottage with deep espresso cabinets and bright white trim.
  • Plan for moisture. Real Homes says laundry rooms are prone to getting humid, advises moisture-resistant paint on the walls, and says semi-gloss is easy to clean and reduces the risk of mildew. The Livingetc and Diamond Vogel pages we read do not cover finish or moisture.
  • Link it to the rest of the home. Flanigan says in Livingetc that support spaces can deviate from the main scheme, but one element, paint or flooring, should carry through for continuity.
  • Keep white from feeling cold. Flanigan suggests adding texture through baskets, countertops, flooring and hardware to avoid a sterile look.
  • Check the details in the render. In our examples the floors were redrawn, one door was repainted along with the walls and one wall picked up a bumpy texture, so compare the render against your real room before you decide.

Laundry Room Paint Colors FAQ

Is the laundry room paint color visualizer free?+

You need a free account to generate. New accounts in most countries get enough free credits for up to 2 renders, and free renders carry a small watermark. After that, paid plans on the pricing page give you more renders without the watermark.

Do I need to sign up?+

Yes. Rendering requires an account so your credits and results can be saved. You can sign in with Google or a one-time code sent to your email.

Can it change only the walls and keep my machines and cabinets?+

That is the goal, and the best results come when you name the parts to keep, for example “paint only the walls sage green, keep the white cabinets, the washer and dryer, the floor and the ceiling light exactly the same”. It is an AI edit, not a mask, so check the result. In our examples the machines and cabinets looked the same, but floor tile or planks were redrawn, some control-panel text changed and in one example a door was repainted along with the walls.

What color should I paint a laundry room?+

There is no single answer. Livingetc’s designers name sage green, black, white, pale green and two yellows. Real Homes lists nine ideas, from mid-tone neutrals to dark shades. Diamond Vogel, a paint maker, shows among others a light off-white, a cool blue and a slate-gray shade. Try a few on a photo of your own room and compare.

Are dark colors a bad idea in a small laundry room?+

Opinions differ. On Real Homes, Al Bruce of Olive & Barr says dark colors can make a small laundry room feel larger and welcoming, while Darren Watts of Wren Kitchens says darker tones feel contemporary and dramatic and slightly close in the space. Diamond Vogel advises high light reflectance value colors where there is little natural light.

What paint finish suits a laundry room?+

Real Homes says laundry rooms are prone to getting humid, advises moisture-resistant paint on the walls, and says semi-gloss is easy to clean and reduces the risk of mildew. The Livingetc and Diamond Vogel pages we read do not discuss finish or moisture, so check the product guide for the paint you pick. The render does not show sheen.

Will it show how the paint looks under my lights?+

No. The render shows a color idea. Diamond Vogel says lighting matters when choosing colors, so paint a large sample on your wall and look at it under your own bulbs and at different times of day before you buy gallons.
